Former F1 driver, Top Gear presenter and sideways driving star Tiff Needell is set to race at Thruxton in the Toyo Tires Production BMW Championship this weekend. Tiff joins a list of guest drivers who have enjoyed the Production BMW Championship experience including most recently BTCC star Adam Morgan.
The Toyo Tires Production BMW Championship is a one-make race series based on the much-loved E30 3-Series first produced by BMW in the early 1980s. There are various body styles currently being used in the championship; 2 door, 4 door and even some Tourings (Estate) car.
Tiff can always be found at Thruxton on our driving experience days giving guests high-speed rides, demonstrating his legendary sideways driving style in the brand new BMW M4 (a quick search on YouTube, and you'll see what we mean). Jumping in to the E30 3-Series BMW will no doubt encourage Tiffs style of driving!
The Production BMW Championship takes on a BTCC race weekend format with a free practice session before qualifying and then three races throughout the day.
The last race is for the Powerlite trophy. The cars will be handicapped on time taken from information from previous lap times and championship positions. Something not to be missed!
The championship is very closely poised at the moment with many drivers in with a chance to win the championship and gain valuable points.
The Historic Racing Drivers Club (HRDC) and the Mighty MINI's provide the rest of the days entertainment. With many of the cars fresh from the Goodwood Revival now taking on the challenge of the UK's fastest race circuit.
The whole day looks set to be action packed. Tickets are available to buy on the gate (£12 admission. £5 for Grandstand seats). Children 15 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
