2021 - BTCC REVIEW: COOK, SUTTON & MORGAN SHARE BTCC SPOILS IN FRONT OF BUMPER THRUXTON CROWD

30 Aug 21

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship put on a show for the bumper crowd in attendance at Thruxton this past Sunday (29 August) as Josh Cook, Ashley Sutton and Adam Morgan scored an impressive win apiece.

For the first time in two years, thousands of fans descended on the high-speed Hampshire venue for a full-throttle trio of races from Britain’s premier motorsport series - and they were given quite the show.

Race one would see BTC Racing’s Cook produce a sublime performance to score his seventh win in four seasons at the circuit. Starting from third, the Honda Civic Type R ace launched into the lead on the opening lap and from there he was never headed.

Maintaining a comfortable lead out front, Cook cruised to the chequered flag for his third win of the campaign, leading home the Ford Focus of Jake Hill and BMW of Tom Oliphant.

Reigning champion Sutton came to the fore in the second contest as he powered his Laser Tools Racing Infiniti Q50 to victory from fifth. Having shed a small amount of success ballast after race one, the championship leader came alive as he carved his way to the front.

Slipping past Cook on the run to the first corner during the second half of the 16-lap bout, Sutton broke clear and powered his way to what was his fourth win of the season - extending his advantage at the summit of the standings at the same time.

Behind Sutton, Cook added a second-place finish to his win earlier in the day while Oliphant enjoyed a relatively trouble-free run to clinch third place once again.

The reverse grid encounter had its fair share of drama with three appearances from the safety car following several high-speed incidents before Morgan triumphed.

Soaking up race-long pressure from four-time champion Colin Turkington, the Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport driver was able to hang on to secure his second win of the year.

Despite his best efforts, Turkington could only settle for second whilst BTC Racing’s Senna Proctor rounded out the podium positions.

The Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship brought the curtain down on its sixth event of the year with another spectacular contest. Following two frenetic races on Saturday, Robert De Haan produced a superlative performance to charge to victory, his second of the weekend.

Theo Edgerton scored an impressive in the Porsche Visit Cayman Islands Sprint Challenge whilst spoils were shared between Louie Capozzoli and Lee Pearce in the Quaife MINI CHALLENGE Trophy.

Oliver Gray stormed to victory in the final F4 British Championship certified by FIA - powered by Ford EcoBoost bout. Finally, victory in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup went the way of Adam Smalley and James Blake-Baldwin.
