2021 - British Trucks Day 2 - FANS FLOCK TO THRUXTON TO SOAK UP TRUCK RACING FINALE

05 Jul 21

Enthusiastic spectators flocked to Thruxton Circuit this past Sunday (4 July) for the final day of what proved to be an action-packed Convoy on the Plain weekend.

Following a pulsating Saturday, which saw mixed weather conditions only add to the spectacle, the high-speed Hampshire venue basked in bright sunshine as the curtain came down on the ultimate trucking festival.

Having taken centre stage on Saturday, the British Truck Racing Championship served up three titanic contests which had everyone on the edge of their seats. As he had done the day previous, Ryan Smith reigned supreme in Division 1 as he powered his way to two victories, whilst John Newell also scored a win.

Division 2 would see Craig Reid add to his win tally with two more triumphs whilst there was also cause for celebration for current title holder Steven Powell, who also charged to the top of the podium.

The Mighty Minis Championship is renowned for producing full-throttle thrills and it duly lived up to the hype as the ‘pocket rockets’ took on a starring role. With the top five covered by less than eight-tenths of a second, the battle for victory went down to the wire however it was Steven Rideout that took the chequered flag.

In the Caterham Graduates Championship, Jamie Winrow was the driver to beat in the final Sigma 150 / Sigma 135 bout before Ben Winrow then powered his way to the front of the non-championship encounter.

Alex Cursley completed a dream weekend in the Carbon8 Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires as he powered his way to a second victory in two days, leading home Wayne Rockett and Matt Mitter.

Elsewhere, William Sharpe and Fergus Campbell shared the spoils in the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship, each taking a superlative victory apiece.

Rounding out Sunday’s track action were two races from the Welsh Sports/Saloon Car Championship, both of which were won by the Ginetta G55 of Chris Everill.
